project 3 The Documentary!

I've come up with an idea, just wondering how im going to excecute it. Storyboarding is the next task!!

As a girl living with boys I'm often faced with the issue of getting ready in the same piddly time as they! The effort women put in to this dubious daily ritual is to impress none other than the men that insist that we need to hurry up! Sooo.... why not make a documentary on just what it is we do that takes us so long and explore the somewhat vital reasons why!

I have a friend in mind that almost takes the cake for the worlds longest time to get ready, even as a fellow make-up lover the time it takes her can often astound me! She hopefully will agree to be my subject while getting ready for a night out!

And she does look stunning, after all the effort has to be worth it!

So the documentary will almost take two views, one.... the time it takes is ridiculous and two..... the end result could quite possibly be worth the trouble!!

Finished Site Nairn park

Well im all finished but im not sure that i would say im completely happy with it. I ended up ditching the day night contrast idea and sticking with the detail vs far away contrast. I decided that I would also make the film black and white then decided against as it lost the effect I was trying to achieve in some shots. I chose not to add different audio to the piece as I wanted to maintain the eerie atmosphere of the park. Its also lacking effects however this is by choice as i believe the site strongly enough spoke for itself.

Nairn Park

So I've taken half my footage and after exploring the park this way I was able to view it in a way I would not usually..... with more detail. Because of this insight i have decided it could be interesting to incorporate it into the concept. I ended taking both close-up shots and distance shots. On the same film i would like to have two images playing next to each other, one playing the scene from a distance and the other as a close up. I'll keep you posted on how this goes!

Nairn Park

Following up on my ideas, I went to explore Nairn Park with my camera to see whether or not it would fit well with my contrast concept. With the tall fences and gate creating a locked intimidating environment as well as its shady trees created a perfect contrast as a relaxing environment.

Project Two SITE/NONSITE

This project is about conveying a sense or mood of a certain landscape or site. The site I have chosen is Thompson Street in Wellington city. I have chosen this street because it is steep, I believe this is an element that will help put across the idea of contrast I would like to convey. The contrast I would like to explore is between day and night, and further looking into the night being scary and Perhaps even ugly versus the day which is light, safe and beautiful.

Alcoholism Remix

After two iterations of my remix video I wasn't too impressed. I decided to make the audio from the different clips work together to create an almost narration. I am happy with my final remix and satisfied that it gets its point across within the 30 second time frame!

With the first two iterations I used the the 'Alcohol is Dynamite' theme, however I thought the particular clip that put the point across interrupted with the flow of the idea. With my final video using less clips created a better flow and proved more successful.

Well, last I checked I was two 30 second videos down, 1 to go with a fair bit of editing and a webpage to go before tuesday! I have seem to have lost what I had to begin with! Really need to work this shared file thing out! Any how Il find them and Im hoping to learn a few editing tools to enhance my work. There is areas of one of the films that id like to speed up for effect. Also needing to learn how to edit the audio side of things! Lots to do!

Ideas for the Cinematics Remix Clip

My first idea which looks like i'll be sticking to, is conveying the affects of alcohol and how these affects occur, the different clips on this subject on archive.org is proving vast and could quite successfully be remixed together to create something interesting to watch. Another idea was to convey the process of growth through pretty much anything, nature, trees growing, cities being built up, people from birth to adulthood. However footage like this proves more difficult to find and i felt the idea would be more difficult to convey. So alcoholism it is, a large part of culture today and in the past! Hopefully this will come across clear in the video!

I found this reading was a lot about the history of remixing and although maybe i didn't realise, dates back a fair way in history just through the mixing of cultures. The article also refers to modularity and the break down of what is being remixed.

Fluid Form

As a first year design student at Victoria University I recently completed a project dealing with the idea of fluid form.

We were given the precedent work by Zakary Kinnaird and from a list I chose Zaha Hadid as a second precedent for inspiration.

We were asked to create a model from a material that we were able to choose. Using drafting film it complimented the fluidity of the shape of my model because of the sheer colour and the way the material was able to bend into fluid curves.

The model was constructed through a series of cuts made on the flat material then bent in two different ways to create the simple but curvaceous form, without the cuts in the material it would have been far less convincing.

The presentation through black and white photos made the model more succesful and expressed the models curves more intensely.

Vlog for 112

My vlog shows the process that i could easily say any girl who loves to shop can say they've experienced! With an upcoming ball for my hostel I thought what other process could i possibly going through more often now than choosing what to wear! Choosing a dress, shoes, how to wear my hair, right down to the colour of my nails. And of course because its one of the the hardest decisions to make, second to the dress, my video is about the process of choosing shoes!

Composite Image

For this particular composite image, I explored the idea of people in the community interacting using body language. I wanted it to show the way that us as humans express different emotions and feelings towards others without having to say a word. Ultimately it backs the constant reminder that actions speak louder than words!!

Researching a number of different blogsites in a studio, I found ones that I liked the presentation of or more strongly the interesting content and the critical views from an individual perspective.

One of a couple that interested me was http://coolboom.net/ dealing with interesting interior design and architecture.

http://vintagegoodness.blogspot.com/ and http://www.blackandwhitedelight.com/ i liked because they dealt with specific types of design however I felt like the content which was talked about on the blackandwhitedelight site was not very strong from a design perspective.
